Professor of Architecture and African American and African Diasporic Studies Mabel Wilson discusses art and architecture with a heavy emphasis on concepts of reuse and readaptation. The current director of the Global Africa Lab at GSAPP talks about the implications of segregation on aspiring African American artists and architects, the limitations faced in a discipline “firmly rooted in epistemes or ideas of rationality,” and the resulting methods that shape the form and construction of African American architecture.
