Wind Power NYC is a comprehensive digital archive of materials (regulations, projects, research on other offshore wind power systems around the world) and recorded interviews with city agency leaders and other urban planners speaking on the topic of wind power related to the establishment of offshore wind power in New York City.
Recognizing that offshore wind power is a near future issue of socio-ecological urgency, Wind Power NYC was established at Pratt Institute in 2020 by Pratt School of Architecture professors Karen Bausman and Maria Sieira. This research unit of faculty is focused on the cultural and design implications of offshore wind power in New York City in response to New York State’s pledge in July 2019 to build 9,000 megawatts of wind power development directly off the coast of New York over the next 15 years. It will be one of the largest new generation offshore wind farms in the world. This recently announced project will become a case study for the rest of the United States, and Wind Power NYC Archive holds the documentation of how it began.
