The OIA is proud to present this Mandarin Pronunciation Workshop as part of International Education Week 2024. Pratt Professor Yijue (Echo) Sun teaches us the essentials of Mandarin Chinese phonetics and pronunciation, including an overview of Mandarin and its dialects, the differences between simplified and traditional characters, and the structure of Chinese syllables. We also explore vowel and consonant pronunciation, the nuances of the four tones, and practice pronouncing Chinese names accurately. You’ll gain an understanding of pronunciation basics, with practical tips for accurately producing sounds and tones, and an opportunity to ask questions.
