Thomas discusses how the success of Danish design made it possible for a lot of
people to fit their homes with modern furniture, lamps, textiles, tabletops, and
more. This lecture explores this process and what Danish design actually is, through
the lens of Thomas’s experiences popularizing and writing about design.
Thomas Dickson is an architect and industrial designer. His work and education
includes degrees from the Royal Academy (1990), Denmark’s School of Journalism
(1988), Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (1989). He ran his own office from
1991-2002 and has since 2009. He was the Director Design Futures Lego Company
from 2002-04, Associate Professor at Aarhus School of Architecture 2004-09,
Visiting Professor at Umea Institute of Design 2010-11, and is the author of numerous
books on design and innovation. He has worked with DIS from 1993-97 and again
since 2017.
