Architecture Lecture Series: Bruno Ast, "Kent State Memorial"

Chicago-based architect and Associate Dean at the University of Illinois Bruno Ast presents his competition-winning proposal for Kent State Memorial. Professor Ast briefly describes the events leading up to the shootings at Kent State University in Ohio and society’s general state of mind in 1970 regarding war, monuments and memorials. He presents a series of precedents displaying the typography of memorial landscape and architecture before explaining the symbolism of the project, his design method, the process of construction and an analysis of the materials used.
