American architect Steven Holl returns to Pratt to talk about his book entitled Urbanisms: Working with Doubt. He introduces a pair of manifestos in which he critiques the practice of architecture in contemporary times, highlighting context, materiality and structure. Holl presents these ideas while showing details of the design and construction of Higgins Hall where the lecture is taking place. The architect designed the renovation of Higgins Hall which operates as the Pratt School of Architecture. He emphasizes the importance of professional practice by teachers and critics of architecture and presents his thoughts on “obedience” in architecture. He presents a series of his own works ranging in scale and typology.
