Defensive Ecologies: Interiors of Exigence
Design Research for Creating Spaces of Cultural Production in the Age of Climate Crisis.
In the form of a short lecture and discussion related to the past three years of design research conducted in coordination with the Defensive Ecologies and Ecosystemic Dwelling Options Studios, and the Ecosystemic Drawing Options Lab, this presentation will explore the impetus for these related inquiries, the progress of the work produced, and a reconsideration of its importance in the context of the current pandemic.
Seth Embry is a Brooklyn-based designer and an educator currently teaching at Pratt Institute. His design research is centered on the cultural and spatial products of ecological crisis. The current phase of his disciplinary project explores operative design strategies for the dire conditions of the present, as well as those of contingent futures. Seth has practiced in various design and construction roles in New York since 2004, in offices including Rockwell Group, IBI, and Leeser Architecture. Seth holds a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute and Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida.
Seth Embry is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Interior Design Department at Pratt Institute.
