Pratt Interior Design Professor Karin Tehve will present case-studies from her book, Taste, Media and Interior Design, published by Routledge in 2023.

Based on class that she has taught in the Interior Design Department since 2009, this book explores the relationship between means of communication and representation and their impacts on the way taste has been defined since the eighteenth century.

Karin will present the chapter “Taste and Algorithms,” examining moments in Tate’s digital evolution, culminating in their commissioning of an AI artist-curator.

Karin Tehve is a Professor at Pratt Institute, where she teaches design theory in Interior Design. She earned her Master of Architecture degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Her own research and writing concentrates on taste, media and identity, and their intersection with the public realm.

Karin founded her practice KT3Dllc in 2001 pursuing projects in architecture, interiors, and site‐specific art. Conference presentation include IDEC, ACSA and Common Ground. She has published in the Journal of Design History, The Journal of Interior Design, The International Journal of Interior Architecture + Spatial Design, and Interiors Beyond Architecture. As a member of Interior Provocations, Karin is co-editor for and contributor to Interior Provocations: History, Theory and Practice of Autonomous Interiors and Appropriate(d) Interiors.
