Artist talk by Kiyan Williams from the Nonbinary & Gender Nonconforming Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon, held at the Pratt Institute Library on March 19, 2019.
Kiyan is a multidisciplinary artist from Newark, New Jersey who unearths counterhegemonic notions of identity, history, and sociality. Kiyan earned a BA from Stanford University and is an MFA candidate at Columbia University. Their work has been exhibited at SculptureCenter, The Jewish Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and La MaMa Experimental Theater Club. Williams was selected to participate in the 2019 In Practice exhibition at SculptureCenter and is among the inaugural cohort of artists commissioned by The Shed, a new art space in NYC. They were invited to re-perform Bruce Nauman's "Wall-Floor Positions" at MoMA and PS1 for the artists's recent retrospective. Currently, Williams is a fellow at the Leslie-Lohman Museum.
