Research & Strategic Partnerships - Supporting Faculty

Research at Pratt Institute is participatory, inclusive, and focused on practical problems that need solving. It happens at different levels: from individual research interests; small research groups that professors form with students; to campus-wide initiatives and larger strategic partnerships.

The office offers the following services:

• seed grants (from Pratt Institute to ‘seed’ good ideas)
• grants management

Examples of ongoing research projects:

• Guerilla Science - led by faculty in Math & Science. STEAM education in public events. Informal, active, short burst learning.
• SWALE - a public floating food forest, a barge converted into a food growing system.
• Climate Innovation - a campus-wide effort around research in climate policy and justice. It stretches across all our schools, Governors Island, Provost Center.
• Research Yard - 40,000 square feet of space, a unique research facility in partnership with the Brooklyn Navy Yard and CUNY City Tech. It is for staff, faculty and students. Opening of the first half is planned for Fall 2022.
• School for Design and Social Justice - building an innovative middle and high school project by Pratt Institute in partnership with Bank Street College of Education and the DOE. More on this in the near future. Contact Eliana if you want to get involved.
