"Placemaking the Displaced" is a presentation by Associate Curator for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Sean Anderson, recorded during the May 2017 Placemaking Symposium. In 2016, Anderson explored the architectural elements, such as mobile housing logistics, and the societal impact of refugee camps in his MoMA curatorial exhibit, "Insecurities: Tracing Displacement and Shelter." "Refugee camps," Anderson writes, "once considered temporary settlements, have become sites through which to examine how human rights intersect with the making of cities.” It is in this context that Anderson explored "Placemaking the Displaced." Anderson asked how placemaking can support the integration of the millions of displaced people into their host communities. Mr. Anderson's former student, and Urban Placemaking and Management graduate, Saba Ja, led the Q&A discussion.
