American architect Lebbeus Woods returns to Pratt to give a lecture on UTOPX (2006) which he addresses with a series of photographs and his own drawings. He believes strongly in the importance of drawing as a medium and begins with a drawing from 1994 that was part of the War and Architecture series which highlights the notion that architecture is always in flux. Through the following slides, Woods describes “activity” in architecture and stresses the point that “drawing is analysis”. The architect takes seemingly chaotic patterns and fragments them before analyzing them and create a sense of order. He concludes the lecture with a study of the city using animated drawings imposed on scenic photographs.
