Winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Glenn Murcutt introduces Pratt architecture students to his methods of thinking and process of design. The Australian architect is known for working as a sole practitioner hiring no staff at his practice. Murcutt begins the lecture reciting a letter received from the Tweedy/Ordway Professor of Social Ecology at Yale, Stephen Kellert. The letter talks about the relationship of the human species with nature and our illusion of “dominance” over the environment propagated by the construction of our built environment. He emphasizes the importance of working with nature and provides a collection of precedents, sketches and designs highlighting that point.
