Acclaimed New York architect Richard Meier presents a series of works from his illustrious career. He begins with his first project, a contemporary wooden beachside cabin and his second project, a house designed for his parents in the woods. He highlights the notion of extending space from the interior to the exterior in an attempt to blur the lines of demarcation. Realizing the shortcomings of this notion, Meier illustrates how his following projects relied on expressing the difference between what is built and what is natural. He explains his subsequent method of work as reliant on diagraming various building elements including “program, structure, enclosure, entry and site situations”. He concludes with an extensive collection of work ranging in scale and typology.
