This presentation was recorded during the May 2017 Placemaking Symposium at Pratt Institute. Most recently, Cresswell condensed several influential theories of human geography and place in, Place: An Introduction. An expert in geographies of mobility and place, Cresswell holds a B.A. in geography from University College London in the United Kingdom; an M.S. in geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Additionally, Cresswell holds a second Ph.D. in English – creative writing from Royal Holloway, University of London and describes his field of research under his own term, "critical geosophy." In his presentation, Cresswell delved into the complex history of the ill fated Maxwell Street Market in Chicago, the nation's largest public market for much of the 20th Century. Cresswell touches on memory of place, place segregation and more.
