The construction industry contributes nearly 40% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, with India's sector alone accounting for one-sixth of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions(Gupta et al., 2024). Perceived as a more traditional rural material (source), many people are unfamiliar with its innovative and cost effective application in a contemporary aesthetic. As a result, the value chain remains fragmented and underdeveloped, particularly in urban markets. India's slow decarbonization efforts, societal biases toward traditional earth materials, and earth material supply challenges necessitate urgent shifts in urban building practices.

With the rapidly shifting cultural, economic and socio-political environment, the role of creative and cultural leaders continues to change, becoming more critical than ever. The Arts & Cultural Management (ACM) and Design Management (DM) programs challenge participants to stay abreast of the trends within and across their sectors and to help “fix the future.” This context presents a myriad of opportunities for participants to solve problems and identify opportunities within organizations, communities and throughout society.

As a key component of the Master in Professional Studies (MPS) degrees, the Integrative Capstone Project provides ACM and DM participants with the opportunity to integrate and apply coursework to a practical, real-world challenge using the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the program.

Capstone evidences our program participants commitment to “lead as if life matters”. Projects are grounded in the strategic frameworks of the 3C’s (culture, community and commerce) and/or TBLD+C (people, planet, profit by design and culture). All capstones support our partnership with the G20 Cultural Leaders Training Network and are designed to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
