FYI — U.S. Academic Culture

The primary learning goal for this session is to understand the distinct academic culture at Pratt and in the U.S. more broadly, especially how it may differ from their home countries. By the end of the session, students will have a clearer grasp of the unique dynamics between professors and students, including aspects like classroom informality, the emphasis on individual work, and the value placed on independent thinking and communication. Additionally, the session aims to equip non-native English speakers with practical tips to effectively navigate their academic journey, addressing cultural adjustments and enhancing their classroom interactions. Students should leave the session feeling more prepared and confident in their ability to succeed in a new educational environment.
